IBA Games.

Short logic games to play in the browser, no sign-up. The main one is O Nó do dia (“the knot of the day”), a new board every day.

Why I made it

I like short logic games, the kind that fit in a five-minute break. I wanted one that belonged to IBA: light, opening instantly, asking for no sign-up or email before you start playing.

It was also a way to show the IBA brand somewhere other than an institutional website. Games are a way to get people coming back every day.

The idea

O Nó do dia is a board that changes every day. The rule fits in one sentence: eight pieces, one per row, one per column and one per region, with none touching another. Easy to understand, hard to put down.

The name IBA Games already thinks of the catalog: the idea is to keep adding other short games with the same look and the same spirit.

Creative process

The most care went into the board. Every day needs to have a solution and be fair to solve, without relying on guesswork. The interface came later and was designed not to get in the way of thinking: the board in the center, little information around it.

Visually, I used IBA's identity with a clear rule: blue #185CB6 is the base and orange appears only on actions. If it's orange, you can click it.

Decisions I made

  • No backend and no sign-upEverything runs in the browser. Open it and play.
  • Self-hosted fontsArchivo and Inter are served by the site itself, with no third-party service needed to load them.
  • Optional dark themeLots of people play at night, on their phones. The dark theme is up to the player.
  • Truly responsiveThe board has to fit and stay comfortable to tap on a small screen.

What I took away

Making a game is an exercise in clarity: if people need to read a manual, the rule is wrong. I took that into my other projects too.
