Personal website · 2025
Isis Alencastro Portfolio.
This website. My digital business card, handmade with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and growing along with me.
Why I made it
A resume and LinkedIn tell where I have been. I wanted a place that showed what I do, my way, with my projects and my personality. And nothing proves I can build websites better than my own website.
The idea
A static, fast site with no dependencies: intro, about, services, projects and contact. Simple to maintain, simple to open on any phone.
It was never meant to be finished. It is a living project: every time I learn something new or enter a new phase, it changes too.
Creative process
It started out very basic, with the main sections and a typing effect in the intro. Then came dark mode, the mobile menu, the projects page with tabs for development, brand identity and automations, and the marquee with the tools I use.
When I positioned myself as a software developer and AI Engineer, the site went through a full redesign: less uppercase, thin borders, more breathing room, and the logo changed from IBA to ISIS. IBA got a space of its own, as my studio. Headings end with a blue dot, the same one in the logo, and in the contact section there is a pixel art character who is me.
Every change goes in through a pull request and is reviewed before it goes live. It is the same care I bring to client projects.
Decisions I made
- No frameworkA personal website doesn't need React. Plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript keep everything light and easy to understand.
- Real SEOA custom domain, meta tags for sharing, a sitemap and structured data that tell Google who I am and what I do.
- Respectful motionAnimations appear as you scroll, but anyone who has set their system to reduce motion gets no animation at all.
- AccessibilityContrast, visible focus, keyboard navigation and alt text. A beautiful site that not everyone can use isn't finished.
What I took away
Building your own portfolio teaches you to be the client and the developer at the same time. It is the project that best shows how I have grown, because you can see every phase I went through in it.
